Foxfield Medal Finals & Jumping Derby

Two of the west coast’s foremost jumping events take place over a single fall weekend.

Foxfield Medal Finals

All year long, the region’s top senior equitation riders compete to win a Foxfield Medal at rated horse shows throughout the west. Now, the year’s winners gather at Foxfield for an extended test of horse and rider to determine an overall champion.

Foxfield Jumping Derby

One of only a few events of its kind in America, the Foxfield Jumping Derbies combine the precision and elegance of grand prix stadium jumping with the difficult challenges of cross-country. In an extended jumping course that occupies both a jumping arena and a cross-country field, the region’s top jumpers must negotiate traditional obstacles as well as water jumps, ditches, walls, and banks.

UNRATED EVENTS

Unrated events at Foxfield emphasize fun and include the Spring and Summer “Sum-Fun” Fun Horse Shows, the P.O.T.S. Horse Show for riders 30 and over and the Foxfield Holiday Horse Show.

Spring Fun Show

A low-key event that allows less experienced riders to compete for ribbons and prizes without going to the full two-day rated show, the Spring Fun Show is held in conjunction with the Foxfield Spring Horse Show.

Entries open one month before the show date and close two weeks before the show date.

Foxfield P.O.T.s Horseshow

A fun horse show for P.O.T.s — “Potential Olympic Threats — who are 30 and up, this horse show offers all the excitement of international competition with none of the stress or risk since no jump in the show is higher than 2′ 9”.

Entries open one month before the show date and close two weeks before the show date.

Foxfield’s Sum-Fun Show

A low-key event that allows less experienced riders to compete for ribbons and prizes without going to the full two-day rated show, the “Sum-Fun” Show is held in conjunction with the Foxfield Summer Horse show.

Entries open one month before the show date and close two weeks before the show date.

Foxfield’s Holiday Horseshow

This rollicking horse show features non-standard events like Gambler’s Choice Jumpers and the always-popular “Dollar Bill” Class. Traditional attire is strictly optional here, and seasonal costumes are welcome.
Entries open one month before the show date and close two weeks before the show date.

FUN & LEARNING

Throughout the year, Foxfield offers events, like the Little Sisters Program and holiday play-days, that emphasize fun and learning.

Little Sisters Program

Between June and September, Foxfield offers ten of its most dedicated younger students “Big Sister” mentors. Throughout the summer, Big Sisters offer their Little Sisters a series of lectures and hands-on tutorials that teach not just riding, but grooming, horse-care, and all-around horsemanship.

At summer’s end, the Little Sisters are put to the test over two consecutive weekends. On the first weekend, they demonstrate their newfound knowledge on a written exam. A week later, a one-day competition–in which the Little Sisters must groom, braid and ride an unfamiliar horse with no assistance from anyone–tests their practical skills.

Holiday Play Days

During the weeks of Halloween and Christmas, some of Foxfield’s group lessons become holiday play-days. Games and contests replace many of the lessons’ usual exercises. Riders can win prizes for holiday costumes, stall decorations, or victory in games like Hand-in-Hand or Egg ‘n Spoon.
